Ride Report mid-week 3hrs 10minutes
First ride monitoring heart rate. I haven’t had a computer of any kind on my bike in a long time so it’s funny to have something on your handlebars keeping track of anything after that long. Hopkins cycling captain and I rode out to do Jerome Jay climbs via Roland, Park Heights, etc.
I rode on Longnecker road for the first time, something I’ve had on my to-ride list for months. Great road, will be beautiful in the summer. Nice even before the sun started setting, thought it would suck to be caught out that far in the dark.

Been meaning to pick one of these prints up for a while, done for Embrocation Mag by a great cycling photographer. Available here. Hopefully they don’t run out before I can get one.

I haven’t blown up on a bike of the week in about 2 years, so here goes one. I’m not sure which one was the last, exactly, but from 2005 to 2008 I did semi-weekly profiles of NYC high school students and the bikes they used to get to school. (Eddy, Jacob, Mauricio, and a bunch more I can’t remember). This is from my personal stable of bikes, and lacks a fork (not sure if it’s worth the effort to find one in just the right size, but time will tell once I’ve built it up.
This is a CRCA early-Remax era “Orion” branded Columbus frame.

For the past two weeks or so, a number of the same 8-12 cars have been using part of the protected bike lane in front of the courts as a parking lot. They’re a mix of New Jersey / New York Plates, and a security guard nearby said he thought they might be there for something having to do with the upcoming terror trials.

If that’s true, the negative side effects of the trials are already starting with the misuse of an otherwise safe bike lane. None of the vehicles parked in the bike lane here (for up to 8hrs at a time) even bother to display fake placards, so there’s probably no tickets being issued.
Hope someone is up for taking this on. CCRC? Streetsblog?
