New Bike lane is painted on St Paul Street

As of today, there’s a brand new bike lane on the right side of St. Paul Street from University Parkway to East 30th Street. It’s about 4-5 feet wide (it seems to thin out near 32nd street). Pictures and video to come..

I'm all for bike lanes, but University to 30th St is about a 5-minute walk. Are there plans to lengthen it in the future?

It would be great to see a lane from Charles Village to downtown, but that would require either running a lane all the way down St. Paul or (my preference) down Guilford two blocks over.
  • Guilford is supposed to be improved to be more bike friendly and less ideal for cars over the coming years, I think, but it's not a replacement for a bikeway on a main thoroughfare which takes you right into the heart of downtown, like St. Paul.

I don't know. Guilford takes you right into the heart of downtown too, plus it connects directly with the separated Inner Harbor bike lanes. If that bike lane does not extend past 30th, it sounds to me like it is intended as "'Round Hopkins" infrastructure, but then again I'm really not that much of a fan of painted bike lanes anyway. Of course, I'm fine with separated infrastructure, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to be built through a north/south corridor. Otherwise, my preference is a more bike friendly and less auto friendly Guilford Ave. sharrow over a St. Paul bike lane.
  • I would settle for Guiliford if they improved the connection at North Avenue.
